Welcome back!
To end this longish series of posts I want to talk about how each type of technology can help us improve going forward. The types of technology we currently have: analog (any man made technology that does not have a processor), digital (any man made technology that uses a binary based processor), organic (any natural or man made technology that uses DNA and more natural materials) and quantum technology (any natural or man made technology that harnesses inter-particle activity). Each type has their advantages but are all of them necessary?
I explained that we need analog technology so that we can survive as a species. Analog technology allows us to create tools, be ensured that are daily tasks can be completed independently and has no major disadvantages. That being said analog technology is much slower compared to other technologies which some people are not accustomed to in the modern age.
Our current and practical man made "high speed" technology is digital technology. Even though it does have some major flaws (able to be disabled or destroyed by electricity, radiation or liquids) it is the fastest type of technology that we can rapidly and inexpensively produce. In the modern age most people are accustomed to digital technology and for the foreseeable future digital technology will remain a relevant type of technology for many people. However going forward I believe that we should avoid this type of technology and move more towards quantum technology.
Quantum technology is fairly new and most individuals are probably not using this type of technology yet. Still it is much faster and diverse (so far) compared to digital technology. Quantum technology may also not have the same drawbacks compared to digital technology. It could also help us better understand more natural technologies such as the human species.
The other type of technology that I talked about is organic technology. Organic technology allows us to live on this planet and be who we are as an individual. It represents all living things on Earth and is essential in supporting us. There are some drawbacks to organic technology but in general organic technology has self healing capabilities and is usually much more versatile compared to digital technology and analog technology.
So what do I think would be the unification of these technologies or the "ultimate technology?" I envision a technology that is not have a specific classification and is able to perform most (if not all) of the tasks we regularly do. This type of technology is versatile, able to quickly adapt, able to interface with other obscure technologies, has no major weakness or disadvantage and can be created and fueled using natural and more common materials. For me I think this is where a blend between quantum and organic technology would be needed.
Using organic technology we would be able to take advantage of natural fuel sources, have self replicating capabilities and adapt to different environmental scenarios such as a new planet by using its natural and common resources. If we can better understand particle activity we may be able to use quantum technology to create new and versatile materials by altering quantum properties. This could allows to interface with other technologies such as digital, allow us to overcome the inherent drawbacks of organic technologies and give us that speed that we are accustomed to in the modern world. I don't know how or if this would be possible but it could be that ultimate technology that me, and I think some others, are looking forward to.
In this new age of technology analog technology would be transformed into the "non-sophisticated but necessary" category of this ultimate technology. It would be independent, not have a processor but have the same advantages of this new technology.
This may not be the ending you were hoping for but it should get you thinking about the future. If we as a species want to keep taking advantage of fast and efficient technologies and overcome our current limitations we must find a way to unify our needs with that of the natural world. We currently use very artificial technology and materials. We forget that we live on a natural planet with natural needs.
I hope I gave you some questions and information to think about. What is your idea of a unified technology?
In my next couple of posts I'll step away from more technological posts starting with Freedom: Are we really free? Be sure to check back latter!
Bye for now,
