Welcome back!
I've talked about digital, analog and organic technology, but there is one more type of technology: quantum technology. I won't get too technical but quantum technology harnesses the power of atomic states to accomplish daily tasks. You can learn more about quantum technology by reading the Wikipedia pages on quantum technology, quantum computing and qubits. Warning though, the articles are a bit technical as this field is pretty new and not many people know about it or use it.
This is going to be a short post as there are not a lot of practical quantum technologies and almost no consumer based quantum technologies. What I want to talk about is how quantum technology can help us overcome current technological limitations.
So why is quantum technology so useful? Because fundamentally it gives us more choices. If you think of a bit in digital technology it has two states 0 and 1 or yes and no. With quantum technology qubits could answer yes or no, but also maybe, unsure, possible but mostly likely not or not possible but maybe with X, Y or Z. Now sure we could simulate these choices using bits and digital technology but during each step of the decision process we always ask the question "should this event happen, yes or no?" With quantum technology we could make the choice instantly without having to ask a yes or no question at each and every step. The possibilities of quantum technology makes it possible to include the gray area of decision making process more like how sentient organic technology is able to think.
What could be some examples of quantum technology? Well if we find a way for quantum technology to mimic organic technology then we could create androids or autonomous machines that make their own decisions, are able to relate directly to humans, naturally read human emotions and gestures, etc. It could also help compute more complex mathematical and physical problems. In general it could make all of our current technologies much faster as well.
Quantum technology is so new and powerful that we may not be able to envision all possible usages of the technology. That is why it is exciting to me. To me quantum technology has the potential to closely mimic organic technology without replacing it completely. I will go more into unity in my next post, but quantum technology is the next logical step up from digital technology and may not have the same weaknesses.
The purpose of this post was to introduce the possibilities of quantum technology as a candidate to help overcome the technological limits that I have been talking about in this series. In my next and final post in this series I will talk about the unity of these technologies and outline a possible solution to this problem. Look out for my next post Unification of Technology to learn more!
Bye for now,
