Chicken or the Egg: The Evolution of Life

Welcome back!

Which came first the chicken or the egg? I've asked myself this question many times in the past, and I am sure many of you have as well. If you say the chicken than the counter argument is that the chicken came from an egg so how can the chicken come before? If you say the egg than the counter argument is that the egg was produced from the chicken so how can the egg come first? Usually this cycle doesn't end in a conversation and most participants are left with more questions than answers. What if the question was a trick and neither choice is correct?

If neither choice is correct than what is the correct answer? Well my conclusion was evolution. The chicken was derived from another, older, species which derived from another and so on. You can follow this chain all the way to microscopic life forms and further to pools of organic chemicals. If you wanted to go further you can follow the chain back to its origin, the god of everything.

If each species derived from another species in the evolutionary chain than wouldn't it be more correct to say that the chicken came first? In order for evolution to take place a species must breed. Through breeding the best parts of each individual life form are chosen and given to their offspring. Over time this causes distinct changes in a species which may ultimately create a new species. Short answer, no the chicken is not independent.

So the correct answer would be to say they both came first? Yes. Neither part can exist without the other. In order for one to exist the other must come first.

You may now be wondering what was the purpose of this post? In my experience some people can't answer this question as neither choice makes sense. For me I really had to think about the answer and by doing this I gained a better understanding about the cycle of life. I hope by sharing this you found the answer you may have been looking for.
